What is Light House Arts Centre?

Light House Arts Centre is a new arts incubator in downtown Halifax. With facilities ranging from a Television Studio to a Performance Hall to offices, coworking space and meeting spaces, Light House is an arts hub and a foundation for connecting and activating local and regional arts activity. Our programs and activities include performances and showcases, television and film recording, talks, gatherings and daily work for arts sector workers, and Light House GO, our online streaming service focused all on Atlantic Canadian Arts & Culture Content.

Job brief

We are seeking someone to become part of our team who will oversee and coordinate external communications and marketing. The successful candidate will be a top notch communicator, an excellent writer, have experience and understanding of social media and digital marketing strategies and be comfortable organizing systems to coordinate high volumes of written/email communications, social media posts, press releases and other communications.

Light House serves a wide range of clients from event companies, arts and cultural not-for-profits, performing artists and the general public as an audience. Adaptability and capacity to organise, streamline and navigate different audiences, programs and opportunities will be essential in this role. The successful candidate will ensure that while different program and service areas are presented and communicate clearly, they all connect with the Light House brand.

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will report to Ryan Veltmeyer, Light House Link Manager, and will work closely with staff from various divisions within the Light House Arts Centre.

Responsibilities including (but not limited to):

Planning and Strategy

  • Advise and inform marketing, communications and brand strategies
  • Ensure written, digital and all communications align with strategies
  • Help develop internal systems and processes to streamline communications
  • Reporting and analysis – leverage consumer research and internal data to identify trends and provide strategic recommendations

Content Creation & Communicating

  • Help develop social media and email marketing campaigns
  • Manage email and social media communications and manage social media platforms
  • In consultation with program and division staff at Light House, create, schedule and send ongoing communications and marketing for Light House opportunities through various channels, including all social media platforms and email newsletters.
  • Using templates, create and post graphic social media promotional materials
  • Write external and internal documents, including press releases
  • Prepare professional documents and presentations for division leads


  • Bachelors degree in marketing, communications, or similar
  • Minimum 1 year with marketing communications experience, or relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute innovative marketing and communications plans
  • Familiarity with media apps and tools to help streamline communication processes
  • Previous experience in the arts & culture sector, or in community-based organisations, NPOs/NGOs an asset
  • Strategic thinker with excellent attention to detail
  • Exceptional project management and organisational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to for team communication
  • Familiarity with digital marketing content creation
  • Interest in music, theatre, film, dance, fashion an asset
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, react quickly, self-start and wear many hats in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Ability to work flexible including some evenings and weekends
  • Network of media relationships and distribution streams for press releases, etc.
